Alpha-beta Fused cast alumina block is produced by melting and casting high purity alumina in electric furnace at 2000℃. It is formed when alpha-Al2O3 and beta-Al2O3 inter-combine during their crystallization stage. This process directly leads to its dense structure, which make this brick have excellent resistance against strong alkali.
Fused cast alpha-beta alumina block is formed by the compact structure of alpha alumina and beta alumina crystals in a most ideal proportion which is approximately 50% and 50% respectively, where intertwined crystals of both materials result in a very dense structure. This material exhibits excellent high temperature strength retention and creep resistance due to its essentially biphasic crystalline nature. The combination of alpha-Al2O3 and beta-Al2O3 bestows this extremely refractory materials with relatively tough composite load extension behavior in high temperature service.
It features absence of Fe2O3, TiO2, glass phase substance and other harmful impurities, and does not pollute the glass liquid. Below 1350 ℃, it has excellent corrosion resistance against molten glass. When in contact with molten glass, it barely produces any blistering or stones. So, it can be widely used in working tank, bottom paving, fore-hearth channel, feeder channels, superstructures and lip stone, etc. For flame space, it also has great alkali vapor erosion. It is recommended as a candidate for crown refractory application.
Fused cast alpha-beta alumina block shows excellent resistance to vapor corrosion in soda-lime container glass furnaces. In soda-lime container glass furnaces, it is installed in the alcove and channel areas, as an alternative to fused cast AZS block for alcoves and as an alternative to fused cast AZS block, zirmul, sintered alumina and other sintered refractories for channels.
Because alpha-beta alumina bricks are expensive and difficult to use casting process to produce large-scale and shape of complex products, they are seldom used in low temperature region of glass furnaces.
The high density, impermeability and volume stability also make fused cast alpha-beta alumina block suitable for a number of non-glass applications including liners for chemical process equipment, electrolytic cells and as hot face linings for kilns.
Fused cast alpha-beta alumina block TY-M from Sunrise Refractory is made with high-purity raw materials and advanced technology. It is the ideal refractory material for channel, feeder channel, spouts and working tank in glass furnaces.
